The iPhone 16 Pro: Your Next Device?
Impressions and Overview
The new iPhone 16 Pro, which includes a 6.3″ display with reduced overall size, flattest bezels of any Apple device to date, the upgraded A18 Pro chip with Apple Intelligence and a unique haptic capture button meant for the redesigned Fusion cameras. Like always, Apple is calling it their highest-level iPhone ever made. But, is it really worth upgrading to that display?
Unboxing and First Impressions
So when I unboxed the iPhone 16 Pro, it felt like déjà vu. The phone seems relatively uninspired with cosmetic design that’s nearly identical to the iPhone 12, 13 and 14 Pro siblings. The 16 Pro is 0.2 inches larger compared against the iPhone 15 Pro while it also weighs an additional 10 grams or about half an ounce more than the phone released just a few weeks before its release.
Notably, this year’s box does not include the iconic Apple stickers in an effort to cut down on plastic waste — a laudable decision. Other than the braided USB-C cable, not much has changed in terms of international versions receiving a physical SIM card slot.

Camera Upgrades
The Fusion Cameras
The camera upgrade in the iPhone 16 Pro is quite spectacular. With it is a 48-megapixel Fusion main sensor, plus a 12-megapixel telephoto and an all new 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera. While the idea of Fusion cameras themselves aren’t a new concept (your iPhone already stitches two different photos together, focusing on detail and light for you), but the ability to shoot with an ultra-wide camera is noticeable in both clarity and depth of color.
The New Capture Button
Apple is also launching a new camera interface that includes a haptic capture button designed to feel like the shutter on traditional cameras. You can press this button to open the camera app, tap and hold it for a few things such as taking photos, or just clouds at camera controls.
But the allure of this feature is short-lived. The novelty wore off for a lot of users, myself included, and we ended up going back to the standard touchscreen controls. Semi-mostly for right handed users a little bit awkward placement of the capture button which means not that ergonomic as might be presumed.
Camera — 115-degree Ultra-Wide Camera and Tetra Prism Functionality
When comparing shots taken between the iPhone 15 Pro, Google Pixel 9 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro, those ultra-wide pictures are far superior on the latter. A bump in megapixels adds up to much better clarity and detail. Additionally, the blacks are now more black adding a deeper contrast.
: The iPhone 16 :: Pro has the same four sensor layout as last week’s image (and the current iPhone 15 Pro Max) but with the additional of a fifth, which will be laser-focusing sensor. Sure, the Google Pixel 9 Pro is still a better performer but this change is a welcome update which helps in creating more natural looking and aesthetically pleasing shots, especially when you take zoom capability into account.
Video Quality
And a video cranks those skills up another tick. There is a stunning 4K, 120 frames per second mode in Dolby Vision. While the internet might not necessarily be able to do it justice, especially if you’re watching on desktop, the recording is actually quite colourful. Similarly, the four new microphones translate to improved spatial audio capture as well as a difference in voice call clarity.
A18 Pro Chip and Performance
The new A18 Pro chip is a huge step forward, according to the press release. That being the second-gen off a smaller 3-nanometer footprint, said to promise more precision and efficiency. Based on benchmark tests the score is up by 12-14% for single-core, multi-code and GPU performance giving Apple’s M1 Macbook a run for its money.
But what does this power actually do for the average user? That extra computation power is great but, just not a game changer for most of us. It’s all about the battery life and heat performance, however. Throughout more than a week of testing, the iPhone 16 Pro was nearly always smooth and responsive, both for browsing and gaming.
Battery Life
It also has a great battery life They both topped out at around 10-12 hours with heavy usage (which included recording plenty of videos and taking many photos), while going well into the next day with moderate use. This gain is largely due to the power efficiency of the A18 chip and a slightly bigger battery. The iPhone 16 Pro also recently upgraded to 25-watt fast charging, significantly reducing the time it takes for you smartphone to charge up.
Design and Build Quality
The changes here are definitely less extreme compared to the iPhone 16 Pro, which may not be attractive for those hoping for a huge redesign. However, the design level is high. The phone is a tad bit bigger yet there are the same number of pixels for each inch of area which means display quality remains crystal. And while the narrow bezels look great, their announcement is far less revolutionary than you might expect given Android’s widespread adoption of them in recent years.
Areas for Improvement
Of course, the iPhone 16 Pro is not perfect despite all its impressive specs.
Apple Intelligence
The Apple Intelligence information report where all been excited about, is still half done. Just a fraction of the features proposed in the announcement event like summarized text and proof-reading are available at launch; others functions won’t start to work until later this year Right now it’s coming of as a Siri upgrade, outclased by the Google AI and the Gemini AI from Samsung Galaxy.
Overheating Issues
The other disadvantage is that it overheats. The phone also has a brilliant graphene thermal system, but it warmed up like any other high-end device when put through an intensive task and all that was in cooler environment. The “iPhone must cool down” indicator did light up several times, testament to the A18 chip’s power requirements.
The Final Verdict
The iPhone 16 Pro comes with a range of new features that are worth paying attention to. The new cameras on offer The ability of camera Videos much improved Who is the battery life better Using A18 Pro chip Apple keeps pushing forward what it does best with solid and gradual upgrades.
But is it all that new? Not necessarily. The iPhone 16 Pro is a solid flagship pick for any loyal Apple ecosystem users. Anyone in the market for something fresh or different could be better served checking out an alternative like the Google Pixel 8 Pro, or another top-tier Android phone.
If your current model, particularly if it’s an iPhone 14 or – heaven forfend – an iPhone 15, still works well enough for you, the sensible thing might be to keep hanging on until one of these brings about a more radical shift.
